Alkyd resin is generated by the reaction of vegetable oil (fatty acids), polybasic acids and polyols. It can be divided into several series such as long oil type, medium oil type, short oil type and modified type, and it is the major raw material for making paint, lacquer and baking paint. It is mainly used in wood coloring agent, ink, spray ...
Compositions intermediate to the end-members of the series (forsterite and fayalite) are also written as Fo x Fa y, an expression of the ratio of forsterite to fayalite. For example, a composition made up of 80 percent forsterite and 20 percent fayalite is written Fo 80 Fa 20 and further abbreviated to Fo 80. These minerals are common as green ...
Reddish oxidation layer of hematite on a wellformed altered fayalite crystal, about 1.6mm tall. Laihunite may be present as alteration zones inside the crystal. This photo has been published in Martin et al. (2015): Fayalite oxidation processes in Obsidian Cliffs rhyolite flow, Oregon. American Mineralogist. 100, 1153–1164: Bill Lechner ...
This study investigates the oxidation of fayalite Fe 2 2+ SiO 4 that is present in lithophysae from a rhyolite flow (Obsidian Cliffs, Oregon). Textural, chemical, and structural analyses of the successive oxidation zones are used to constrain: (1) the oxidation processes of olivine, and (2) the role of temperature, chemical diffusion, and meteoric infiltration.

Chemistry American Mineralogist The quartz-fayalite-iron and quartz-fayalite-magnetite equilibria have been studied in the temperature range 1000-1400 and 1050-1300 K, respectively, using an electrochemical technique. The results are in excellent agreement with the calorimetric data on fayalite (Robie et al., 1982).
Fayalite (Fe 2 SiO 4 ), also called iron chrysolite, is the iron-rich end-member of the olivine solid-solution series. It is a black or brown mineral which is an iron-rich form of olivine and occurs in many igneous rocks. The name fayalite is derived from Faial (Fayal) Island in the Azores where it was first described in 1840.

We present new elasticity measurements on single-crystal fayalite and combine our results with other data from resonance, pulse superposition interferometry, and Brillouin scattering to provide a set of recommended values for the adiabatic elastic moduli C ij and their temperature variations. We use a resonance method (RPR) with specimens that were previously investigated by pulse ...
Fayalite Fe2SiO4 is synthesized by the solid-state reaction without ball milling. The obtained powder is further structurally and electrochemically examined. Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) showed that microsized powder is obtained. X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) pattern is used for both phase identification and crystal structure Rietveld …
according to our data, adding 2.3 wt% water into fayalite leads to reductions of compressional and shear wave velocities ( and ) by 3.4%–7.5% and 0.3%–3.4% at pressures from 0 gpa to 25 gpa, respectively, which are basically in agreement with the 2%–5% reductions of sound velocity obtained by the experimental measurement in the low velocity zones …

An unusual fayalite-bearing quartz-monzonite occurs around Bauchi in Northern Nigeria and is distinguished from the high-level fayalite granites of the Newer Granites ring complexes by the presence of a linear structure conformable with those in the surrounding rocks, the gradational nature of its contacts, the extreme coarseness of its mineral constituents and …
Abstract. Serpentine formed from Fe-rich igneous forsterite (Fa 38–43) in two samples of peridotite from the Layered Series of the Duluth igneous complex, Minnesota, is enriched to at least 30% of the Fe end-member.In addition to lizardite, chrysotile, and clinochlore, electron microprobe and transmission electron microscope study reveals the presence of metamorphic …
